Quick answer
For an Android phone or tablet, HHPlayer on Google Play is a free IPTV app with no ads, no account and no in-app purchases. It plays live TV, movies and series from your own M3U link or Xtream Codes login, with a TV guide and catch-up. If you only want to open a stream now and then, VLC for Android is a familiar alternative. Smarters Pro is a widely installed option, with in-app purchases listed on Google Play.
No app includes channels or playlists: you bring a link or login from a provider you are entitled to use. Information is as of November 2026.
What to look for on a phone
- Landscape and full screen that work without fiddling.
- Touch controls. Tap and swipe to show controls, change volume or move around.

- M3U and Xtream Codes. See M3U vs Xtream Codes.
- TV guide and catch-up, when your provider supplies them. See TV guide, EPG and catch-up explained.
- Series resume so you pick up where you stopped.
- Privacy and price. Ads, accounts and in-app purchases.
The options compared
HHPlayer
Made for IPTV on phones, tablets and TVs. On a phone it works in landscape and full screen, with tap and swipe controls and a channel list drawer inside the player, so you can switch channels without leaving the video. It handles M3U links and Xtream Codes logins, live TV by category with favorites, a full TV guide grid from your provider’s XMLTV data, and catch-up or restart when the provider offers an archive or Xtream timeshift. Movies and series have seasons, resume and next-episode autoplay; audio and subtitle choices are remembered. Since version 1.0.9 you can play a second channel in a small corner window, swap the two and pick which one has the sound. Other features: search across channels, movies and series, several playlists that refresh automatically, and a parental lock. See all features.
Smarters Pro
Tech Smarters publishes the current app as “Smarters Pro” for Android TV and “Smarters Pro - Mobile” for phones. As of 7 November 2026, the mobile listing on Google Play shows 1M+ downloads, a 4.4 rating, in-app purchases and an update on 28 September 2026. Its website lists parental control, multiple playlists, an EPG, picture-in-picture, Chromecast and a search across movies, series and live TV. Check the store listing for current prices. Because many look-alike apps use similar names, make sure the developer is Tech Smarters. See HHPlayer vs IPTV Smarters.
VLC for Android
The free, open-source player has an Android version. It can open a playlist link or file, but as a general media player it isn’t organised around channels, a TV guide or series resume. A good tool for quickly testing a stream.
Kodi
Kodi, the free, open-source media center, also exists for Android. For IPTV it uses the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, which reads an M3U playlist and an XMLTV guide. It is flexible but needs setup, and it is designed more for big screens than for a phone.
Comparison table
| App | Cost | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| HHPlayer | Free, no ads, no in-app purchases | IPTV app for phones, tablets and TVs | Landscape viewing, channel drawer, guide, second channel |
| Smarters Pro - Mobile | In-app purchases (see Google Play) | IPTV app from Tech Smarters | Same app on iPhone and Apple TV |
| VLC for Android | Free | General media player | Quick tests |
| Kodi | Free | Media center with a PVR add-on | Tweakers; best on big screens |
How to install HHPlayer on your phone
From Google Play
- Open HHPlayer on Google Play and tap Install.
- Open the app and add your M3U link or Xtream Codes login (server, username, password).
- Turn the phone to landscape and tap a channel. Open the channel drawer to switch quickly.
With the APK
If you don’t use Google Play, download the APK from the Android page (it needs Android 7.0 or later). Your phone will ask you to allow installing apps from the browser or file manager you used; menu names vary between brands. Open the downloaded file and choose Install. The Google Play version and the APK are signed differently, so one can’t update the other: to switch, uninstall one first.

Tips for IPTV on mobile
- Wi-Fi first. Streams use a lot of data on a mobile plan.
- Keep your playlist link private. It identifies your subscription; playlists and history stay on your device with HHPlayer.
- Guide and catch-up depend on the provider. They appear only if it supplies XMLTV data or an archive.
- Need help? See the support page.
Our verdict
On a phone, comfort matters: landscape, full screen, a channel drawer and gestures. HHPlayer is free, takes M3U and Xtream, and adds a TV guide, catch-up and a second channel. Smarters Pro is a known alternative if you want the same app on iPhone, and VLC is a handy fallback. We make HHPlayer, so try it and compare.
HHPlayer is a media player and includes no content: use a playlist from a provider you are entitled to use.
